It is now possible to get a psychology degree even before you have left school.
Mr Don Patton of South Point High School in Ohio is also known as PROFESSOR Patton in his incarnation as a teacher on the Southern Campus of Ohio University, and don’t suggest to him that the scool teaching represents some kind of watered-down option! It is a down-the-line equivalent of the first two years of a college course – an associate degree.
This allows students to fast track past the first two years of college and also makes college-level learning available to students of families for whom the notion of college education is an unthought of possibility.
South Point High principle John Maynard has done his best to encourage students who would otherwise not have access to college by making classes free or at reduced cost – and even offering them a lift home (although, I suspect, not personally!)
You don’t have to be looking towards psychology to benefit from this innovation. Students can also take various other college courses on-line during the school day, or even take courses to earn college credits whilst working at high scool.
